Dear        ,

INVITATION TO 2ND MODULE OF EKO AKETE SUMMIT III ON LAGOS MEGACITY PROJECT 2015 (Tuesday 20TH November – Friday 23rd November, 2007)

The Eko Akete International Summit on Lagos 2015 Megacity Project is a  broad based forum to discuss the need for a fundamental change in our approach to address mounting population pressures, rapid urbanization and infrastructure development and constraints within which the government has to operate.

Therefore, there is need for a deliberate strategy that is workable; realistic; and can make a difference in the lives of our people. For this to happen, we need the partnership of all stakeholders in the Lagos 2015 project to be catalyzed by the private sector as ombudsman.

Specifically, the 1st module held in August this year addressed the issue of Sustainable Development/Resource Utilization and Economic Planning in the Public sector as a precursor to the forth coming event. The 2nd module theme: Corporate sustainability, Environment & Energy, Finance & Sustainability, Population, Demography, Water, Health & Sanitation in building better cities using public-private-partnership (P3)”

The Summit module seeks to among others:-

·                    X ray the problem of inadequate social and physical infrastructures, urban poverty, security and safety, revenue base, and good governance;

·                    Promote institutional reform especially the challenge of service Delivery in mega cities;

·                    Promote transparency and accountability, in particular participation in governance and budgeting;

·                    Promote public-private partnership in governance, etc.

Benefits to organizations:

The summit is intended to discuss Lagos megacity region as it affects infrastructure, economic, finance, shelter, health, education, safety and security issues. The 2015 population explosion will investigate projected changes in the demographic characteristics of lagos megapolise over the next 10 years and its attendant implication on consumption of goods and services, economic growth, energy demand, and carbon dioxide emissions.

There is therefore need for all stakeholders to agree on new household projections for lagos cities mega region that model changes in population size, urbanization, and the size and age structure of households over the next 20 years.  The initial economic characteristics of different household types, including demand for consumer goods, supplies of labor, and capital, are estimated from household surveys and production data for each LG.

 “A global energy-economic growth model” which will stimulate economic growth as well as changes in consumption of various goods, direct and indirect energy demand, and carbon emissions over time shall also be discussed. Effects of demographic changes will be x rayed under different scenarios and assumptions which will help all stakeholders, especially the private sector in its planning and projection for socio-economic calculations and growth of the Lagos mega cities region.

Achieving this goal would be a dream if we do not get your active support and participation at the summit. This letter, therefore, seek your cooperation, participation and collaborations in achieving success at the summit. Please see the attached summit papers.
