Is Eko Akete Summit Group an NGO that works strictly on issues in Local Government and sustainable development alone?

Yes. The Summit Group promotes good governance, democracy, urban development and all issues connected with sustainability that will help attain the millennium development goals.

Who can join the Lagos megacity project group?

Any municipal government that is democratically elected and promises to comply with the protocol on MDGs, all stakeholders in the lagos megacity region, State Governments, (private sector, both formal and informal; CBOs, NGos, CDAs,etc) and whose actions fall within the framework of the principles of democracy, good governance and best practices in our cities.

What must we do to join the Lagos megacity project group?

Be part of
the summit, conferences, thematic workshops and lobby group that will advise government on the need to catalyze the development process.


How is the Summit Group financed?

Mainly by the contributions and support frm State governments, fees paid at conferences, donations by stakeholders, sponsorship of our activities by governments, the private sector as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR).

 

Must one pay a fee in order to be a member?

No
. However, active participation at the summit programmes which is fee paying is enough to make you a member. Corporate membership is determined by individual company’s support and sponsorship contributions, which is appropriately recommended to the State government for recognition.

 

 How can a city member edit its own web page in the summit site?

By filling up the application form and commit itself to update it.


Must one be a member of the summit group to participate in its summit and conferences?

No. Any persons or public or private institutions can do so. One of the goals of the summit is to involved all stake holders in the lagos megacity region to the need to participate in its rennaissance.

How often are the international summit held?

Every two years, however, starting from 2008, it will hold every year due to the volume of space that is yet to be covered if we must attain the MDG by year 2015.


Must one be a member to participate in its thematic networks?

No
. The only requirement is your participatiob at the summit to understand the objectives of the various thematic.

How can a city participate in an established thematic network?

By stating in writing in a letter to the Secretariat your wish to do so and by appointing someone to represent your city as contact person.

Can a group of cities set up a thematic network?

Yes. The cities in the megacity municipalities can get together on the basis of their thematic interests. They must notify the Secretariat in order to receive support and so that it can inform others of the fact.


Must one be a member of the lagos megacity project to participate in the international networks?

Yes. The lagos megacity project promotes and supports the exchange of experience and joint work through exchange programmes, mentoring, twining and other related activities that will enable us share best practices modules.
